DIY Painted Mirror (under $15)

Supplies needed:

A Mirror.  I found mine at Goodwill for $5.
Stencil(s) of your choice.  I chose Celtic knots, of course.  I found mine at Hobby Lobby for $5 combined.

Gloss Enamel Paint(s) or any liquid paint that can be used on glass, in color(s) of your choice.  I used metallic gold and white.  (Usually under $2)

Stencil paint brush or sponges.  I used both.  Makeup sponges will work just fine. My brush was $2.99 @ Hobby Lobby, and the makeup sponges can likely be found a dollar store.

Painters tape.

Prep:

If your mirror is very dirty, clean it with soap and water first, and then clean with glass cleaner spray.  If your mirror is not very dirty, you can skip the soap and water.  You'll notice that my mirror has some scratches and spots that I was unable to remove, but I think it will add character.  It will fit in with my decor, since I have a shabby-chic vibe.

If you're making a pattern with your stencils, it's a good idea to use a ruler and a dry erase marker/chalk marker to mark off the mirror that everything is evenly spaced and alined.

Use your painters tape to keep the stencil in place while you tab on the paint.  It may take you a couple tries to get the right amount of paint on your brush or sponge.  I used too much initially, and had to wipe off the first couple with a clean, damp rag.  After a couple tries, I got the hang of how much paint I needed for each stencil.  A little bit goes a LONG way with the sponges!

Once you're finished, you can easily wipe off your guidelines.

I can't decide if I want to hang this mirror or just lean it against the wall.  What do you guys think?

You can really do this with ANY mirror.  Get creative!

No-Sew Pillow Case

Saw this idea and had to try it.  It was so easy!
You just need an old ugly pillow (or a new one, your choice), 2 cloth napkins, an iron, fabric hemming tape (preferably extra strength/super strength), and scissors.  The photos should be self explanatory enough to walk you through the steps, and just follow the instructions for the hemming tape.  I will definitely be doing this again!

Spice Up Your Candle Holders

Hanging Monogram

So, I am a self proclaimed Pinterest addict. If you haven't checked it out, you NEED to. Especially if you're into crafts. I saw this splendid idea for a hanging monogram and knew I had to try it out.

Since my new color scheme in my living room is going to be coral and pale blue/mint, I chose to theme the monogram in color and white colors. It actually turned out really cute! Here are the supplied I used to make it:
Cardboard large letter (you can find them at most craft stores
Decopodge
1/2 inch brush to apply decopodge
Ribbon
Decorative flowers
Twine or hemp string (somewhat thick)
Gorilla Glue (not pictured below)

Below, you can get an idea of how I started the application of the string. Your strategy may differ from mine as each letter differs. To secure the ends of the string, use Gorilla Glue, as it has an extremely strong and durable hold. As you apply the string, brush decopodge underneath it to secure and hold it. Don't worry about how the back of the letter ends up looking, it will be against the wall. The back of mine looked pretty haggard.

Once you're finished applying the string, you can then attach the flowers and ribbon. The flower I used had pins on the back, so I just stuck the pins in the letter and also secure them with a little Gorilla Glue on their backs. I used thumb tacks AND Gorilla Glue to attach the ribbons to the back of the letter. Then, just tie a pretty bow in the ribbon and you've got yourself a beautiful hanging monogram. Your hands will be tired and covered in glue, but it will be worth it!
